Vertically Challenged
Being someone who is shorter than the average person, I wanted to make a story about just how us vertically challenged people can be quite stubborn when it comes to trying to get something in a very high place, in this case a book. Visual concept greyscale and color test. Created in Adobe Photoshop.
Below are character designs for Nina, from animated short Vertically Challenged. Nina is a stubborn yet clumsy girl who’s not afraid to take on a challenge if it means her pride is at stake. She’s the kind of girl where rather than grabbing a stool to get a book from the top shelf, she’d scale the bookshelf, even if it’s not the smartest choice. On the left is an earlier design of Nina, and to the right is the finalized design. Not much was changed between the early design and the final design besides the gradient color pallet that was added to the new design and simpler shapes to make the body. Character was designed in Toon Boom Harmony and Adobe Photoshop.
Here are all of the official layouts, they were made in Adobe Photoshop, then transferred elements of layout to Adobe After Effects to make them appear to have more depth.
The first video I created in Storyboard Pro, and the second video is the final product. With complete animation made in Toon Boom Harmony, assembled together in Adobe After Effects and configured in Adobe Premiere. I do not own the rights to the music in this animation.
